History

Redwood was formed in 1983 when entrepreneur Christopher Curry, Fleet Street Editor Christopher Ward and Publisher Michael Potter saw a gap in the magazine market. Loyalty programmes and relationship marketing were still in their infancy and editorial quality of 'free' magazines was generally poor. Redwood changed all this with Expression which was mailed quarterly to 230,000 American Express Green Card members.

Expression, or E! as it eventually became, achieved all its objectives and thus (we would claim) earns its place in magazine history as the first customer magazine.
