About us

Environment

We are passionate about reducing our carbon footprint, from our office environment to the manufacturing process of our magazines.

Our objective is to do this without affecting the printed quality of our work. We have invested considerable time and expertise to build a rigorous, robust and independently verifiable model that moves beyond the basic environmental accreditation schemes most agencies subscribe to.

Our Environmental Policy

Redwood is committed to reducing its environmental impact across its business and outsourced operations. Our focus relates to ensuring sustainability and efficient use of resources, sharing best practice on climate change with all of our supply-chain partners. We operate a measurement, risk, target and review system which seeks to maintain a robust and credible approach.

For 2010 our main objective is to integrate ISO 14001 environmental management system in to our day-to-day business practice to demonstrate our global commitment to all our stakeholders.

Sustainability

Sustainability

At the beginning of 2009, Redwood achieved a 100% sustainable fibre sourcing record. Redwood has both FSC and PEFC 'Chain of Custody' forest certification. Additionally, we also use recycled content papers where they are either a minimum 80% post consumer waste, or are also combined with FSC accredited pulp.

In line with PPA guidelines all the polywrap packaging used in mailing our magazines is oxo-degradable, which means it degrades quickly and safely compared to normal plastic packaging.

Case Study: Land Rover Onelife

Case Study: Land Rover Onelife

In 2007 Land Rover asked Redwood to look at ways to reduce the environmental impact of Onelife magazine. We conducted lengthy research on the magazine's carbon footprint including all aspects of the process, from sourcing the fibre to mailing the issue.

We then worked out how we could reduce it, and offset the remaining amount by investing in CO2-reducing projects, balancing the emissions that we couldn't avoid. In the case of Land Rover this meant sponsoring a hydro-plant in India, a project that was ratified by the Clean Development Mechanism using renewable energy offset schemes.

All of the work has been externally audited by the Carbon Neutral Company. After three years the results of the Land Rover Onelife initiative have proved to be a resounding success: CO2 emissions for Onelife are consistently below the industry average, by 17% in Year 1, 43% in year 2 and 21% in Year 3.

Awards

Awards we've won

Winning the Individual Achievement of the Year Award for Redwood's leadership in developing the PPA carbon footprint calculator in November 2008 was testimony to our commitment to the environment and that of the magazine sector.

During 2009, Redwood's environmental vision continued to pull in plaudits when the PPA won the Trade Association Forum's 'Best Environmental Initiative for Successful Sustainability' following the huge take up of the carbon footprint calculator through the 400-plus PPA membership.
